Every year, SCAC awards a scholarship at a minimum of $500 (and often much more) in the memory of Peter and Joan Oliver. Peter was a professional actor and director, and Joan was a gifted social worker. They were one of the key catalysts for the revitalization of the arts in Shelburne County.
Every year, the scholarship is to be awarded to a county student pursuing post secondary education in the arts. SCAC defines the arts broadly to include dance, literature, journalism, creative writing, music, theatre, craft, film and video, jewelry, visual arts such as painting, photography, graphic or digital design, sculpture. Undergrad and graduate degrees, community college diplomas and private school programs are all eligible. Applicants can be entering the first year of a program, be in the middle of a program or continuing with their education after completing a first degree or diploma.
SCAC hosts "A Musings" event every year as a fundraiser for the scholarship. Peter and Joan created these events and held many to raise funds for various community causes. Musings are like coffee houses with a variety of entertainment, desserts and soft drinks. Entry to Musings is usually by donation at the door to the scholarship fund.
